An hacienda with history and tradition.
Since the latest XVIII century, San Pedro de Ovando has been a vast ground for farming. Initially, the core crop harvested was wheat and oats. Nowadays, forage bamboo and nopal are the principal products. We are committed with our personal and with the environment; this way we support the development of the region. Our goal is to continue being a social responsible and sustainable organisation.
The Hacienda San Pedro de Ovando was built during the XVIII century by Marquis Agustín de Ovando and Núñez de Villavicencio. He was a renowned patriot during the Nueva España, being the owner and builder of “Casa de Los Muñecos” which means: “house of dolls” or “house of puppets”. Today this house is part of the State’s University (Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla). The Marquis also owned some other buildings and a bridge; the bridge is known now as Puente de Ovando.
Some important social figures have stayed in San Pedro de Ovando, such as the Emperor Maximilian of Habsburg and his wife Charlotte on their way from the port of Veracruz to Mexico City. Also many Heads of State of Mexican Government during the last 6 decades.
